About
Welcome to jamiescards.com! I’m Jamie, I am happy you found my site! I took all of the photos on the cards during my travels and adventures! I use 100% recycled non-coated paper, which was made using wind power, for all the cards and envelopes. The card sleeves are eco-friendly and 100% biodegradable. The rigid mailers are 100% recycled. The web hosting GreenGeeks is also wind powered.
I wanted to start a nature greeting card business to pursue my creative passion and also because I appreciate handwritten heartfelt letters from family and friends as some of my most treasured keepsakes. I wanted to do something to remind people of the beauty and magic of nature that we stand to lose if we do not each do our part to create a more sustainable world.
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve loved camping and nature. I made the moon and canoe logo because some of my first epic adventures were canoe camping with my Grandpa in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota, I love canoeing at night, the still of the water with the stars reflecting off the surface is like being on a sliver between two worlds.
I traveled with my now husband and our beloved adventure cat Cozy for 7 years. We mostly traveled by bicycle with thrift store backpacks wired on to make shift racks, camping wherever we found beautiful places and sometimes just wherever we ended up when we were completely exhausted from biking all day, (Which added a lot of juxtaposition to the magically beautiful places).
We always tried to leave places cleaner than we found them so that others could appreciate their experience without trash making them lose sight of the incredible beauty of nature. I feel very lucky to have seen the places I have seen. Most of them we stumbled on without internet, just following a dirt deer trail through the forest with our mountain bikes and camping gear. We also train hopped and we canoe traveled through the Puget Sound from Seattle to Bellingham. Most of our travels were on the west coast of the US.
I never had a fancy camera on my travels and I don’t have photo editing software nor did I go to college for photography, but I do have a passion for exploring and photographing nature. I have gotten myself to many beautiful “off the map” places that I wouldn’t have seen if we were traveling by car. I feel like the photos I have taken are from a different perspective and approach than a professionally trained photographer. I am honored and delighted to share them with you!
I am now a mother of an amazing wild, creative and whimsical daughter, who also loves nature so we try to get her out on hikes as much as possible. I am very concerned for my daughters future and all of life because of climate change. I’m aware of the way humans daily lives and the choices we make can tip the balance. That is why I have tried to make the most environmentally friendly choices for all the products I use for the card making and shipping. I am always trying to make improvements to make my personal life more sustainable, so I can do my part to leave a living thriving healthy planet for all life.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for checking out my site, I hope you enjoy the cards, I really enjoyed my experience in each place!
Sincerely-
Jamie
